In the latest Delia Sessions, Jeries Babish, the lead singer of the rock band Mafar, shared his journey as a musician, composer, arranger, and songwriter. Born and raised in Palestine, he was introduced to the world of music by his father, who took him to the music conservatory in his childhood to choose an instrument to play. Jeries began making music with the piano and hasn’t stopped since.
“Music is my personal escape. That helps me get out of all the boxes around me. It is my refuge where I can produce and feel comfortable. It makes me feel alive, and that I can influence my present”
“What sets an artist apart from others is their original authentic productions. Pieces that are completely inspired from within. Not the performance of an already existing song”.
He believes that what sets an artist apart from others is their original and authentic productions, pieces that are completely inspired from within. In his perpective it is important for every musician to have their own touch, to write new personal lyrics, and to be able to add to the music library, not only cover what is already out there.
As a musician he has achieved many things in his musical career, including three albums in six years, many trips abroad, and winning second place in the Arab Festival for Youth Music in Morocco. He aspires to do more and sees himself making music and presenting his songs to audiences abroad, expressing things about himself and his people.
“Among my achievements – and of course I aspire to more – are 3 albums in 6 years. Many trips abroad. Winning second place in the Arab Festival for Youth Music in Morocco. Which added a lot to my journey and my experience. Especially with Mafar Band members. That is what I am trying to pursue in 5 or 10 years. I see myself making music and presenting my songs to audiences abroad. Songs that express things about myself and my people”
Jeries performance in Delia Sessions was an inspiring look into the life of a talented musician and songwriter from Palestine. His dedication to producing original and authentic productions, despite the challenges he faces, is a proof to his passion for music and his desire to share his experiences and stories with the world.
