This project follows the legacy of the Delia Center Gaza—our cultural hub that operated for four years until its destruction—and the Artists Shelter in Rafah, which provided refuge for six months before forced evacuation. In the face of the ongoing genocide in Palestine, the Harmony Day Center stands as a testament to our commitment to supporting Palestinian musicians, children, communities, and culture. This new center is our new emergency response as a dedicated space where art, music, education, and community connection offer a path toward resilience, coping, and healing.
The Harmony Day Center is designed to offer children and young people a sanctuary where they can explore creative expression in a safe, supportive environment. In a region deeply affected by ongoing attacks, this space provides not only an attempt for physical safety but also an emotional refuge, allowing children to express their feelings, cope with trauma, and connect with others through music, art, and community support. The center offers children a sense of stability and hope by focusing on healing, education, and creative freedom.
At the Harmony Day Center, we harness the power of music to support children and communities affected by war, providing them with a means to express, heal, and connect. Keeping Palestinian culture alive is one of our main goals; through music, arts, and educational programs, children engage with their heritage and find comfort in shared cultural expression. These activities build resilience and preserve and celebrate Palestinian identity, ensuring it endures for future generations despite significant threats.
The Harmony Day Center goes beyond creative expression by offering educational and psychosocial programs tailored to the specific needs of Gaza’s children, who have been unable to attend school since October 2023. Programs range from small group activities focusing on mental health and community bonding to structured music learning sessions addressing their continued development despite the lack of formal schooling. This holistic approach helps children develop coping mechanisms, promotes social support networks, and fosters a sense of normalcy through learning, giving Gaza’s youth the tools they need to navigate an uncertain future.
